The Student Athlete Foundation of Kansas (SAF-K) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation in Kansas City, KS. The goal of SAF-K is to provide appropriate medical coverage to the high school student-athletes in Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties through the use of certified athletic trainers. SAF-K athletic trainers also work with orthopedic specialists, general practice physicians, physical therapists and other health care professionals in a team atmosphere to provide the best possible care for the student athletes. SAF-K is currently providing full-time athletic trainers for the Kansas City Kansas Public Schools (USD 500) high schools, Piper High School, Lansing High School and Leavenworth High School..
Athletic trainers are nationally certified and state licensed health care professionals that practice under the direction of a physician. Athletic trainers practice the prevention, evaluation and management of emergency, acute, and chronic injuries. The ultimate goal of an athletic trainer, and the SAF-K organization, is to ensure safe participation for student-athletes.
